Community Continues to Respond to NIU |
 |
The Community Foundation continues to be involved as the healing process continues in the wake of February's tragic events at Northern Illinois University.
Working with the DeKalb and Sycamore Chambers of Commerce, DCCF has facilitated contributions for a Community Memorial Fund. Thus far, nearly $60,000 has been received. Those proceeds will be combined with contributions made directly to NIU, and representatives from a Communitversity Committee is now making final decisions as to what shape a lasting memorial will take.
Currently, an initiative called "Huskies on Parade" is being spearheaded by community and university representatives that will culminate with a public exposition of painted Huskie dogs in the DeKalb-Sycamore area this fall. Proceeds from this effort will benefit the February 14 Student Scholarship Fund. Further information on the "Huskies on Parade" effort can be found at www.huskiesonparade.com. Information on the Student Scholarship Fund can be accessed at www.niu.edu.
