2010 SCHOLARSHIPS
Scholarship funds at the DCCF are a great way to memorialize loved ones while investing in the futures of generations of youth ahead of us. Scholarships for DeKalb County residents are listed below, along with 2010 recipients. No applications forms are available at the Foundation for high school graduate scholarships. Please see your school counselor.

CHRISTOPHER ANDERSON MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP
FUND
This scholarship is a memorial to a 16-year-old DeKalb student, killed in an
auto accident in 1999. Distribution from the endowment provides a scholarship to a graduating
DeKalb High School senior who played soccer at D.H.S.

BARBARA CUMMINGS MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP
FUND
This fund enables Mrs. Cummings' family to award a DeKalb High School scholarship to a graduate intending to pursue a career in teaching. Barb Cummings died in late 2002, and the fund was started with a large number of memorial gifts.

DEKALB HIGH SCHOOL CLASS OF '63 SCHOLARSHIP FUND
Established as part of the class' 45th reunion during 2008, the fund is expected to become fully-endowed in the coming months, and will provide scholarship support of DHS.

Mrs. Glidden, who died in 2007, had outlined in her estate that four-year
scholarships would be awarded to DeKalb High School students, with the first
recipient named in 2008

Following the untimely death in 2004 of this young DeKalb woman, Michelle's
family started this fund to start this scholarship in her memory at DeKalb High
School.

EMMETTE B. LAND SCHOLARSHIP FUND
Established in 1998 in memory of Emmette B. Land, this scholarship supports DeKalb
High School graduates who participated in high school athletics and have a "B"
average or above.

MALTA LIONS SCHOLARSHIP FUND
This local service club started this, in early 2003, to provide yearly scholarship
support to a graduating DeKalb High School student who resides within the boundaries of the former Malta School District.

ROWLAND & LUCILE MATTESON DEKALB HIGH SCHOOL SCHOLARSHIP FUND
A graduating senior will be awarded a scholarship from proceeds of this new fund,
started after the death of Lucile in 2006. Both Rowland and his wife were strong
supporters of education during their life together in DeKalb County.

JOLYNN WISTED ROGERS MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP FUND
A scholarship for the DeKalb High School graduate intending to pursue a business
curriculum is possible through this endowment. Established by the family of Jolynn
Rogers by her husband Rick and children Courtney and Jordan, the fund will be a
lasting memorial to this DeKalb woman, who died of cancer during 2005.

Established in 1998 in memory of this Little John Elementary School teacher, it
is used to support a scholarship for DeKalb High School graduates selected by

Established in late-1999, this fund is administered by the DeKalb Education
Foundation. Its earnings will provide scholarship support for graduating seniors

This fund was started, in 2002, as a memorial by the children of this Genoa-area
couple, and funds scholarship support for graduates of Genoa-Kingston High School.

THE BOBCAT SCHOLARSHIP FUND
Established in early 2001 by Alvin and Myrtie Warren, this fund
will provide scholarship support to a graduating senior at Somonauk
High School to further his/her education at a trade school, community
college or university.

LILLIAN S. BOYNTON FUND
This fund, started in 2000, a bequest from the estate of Mrs. Boynton, a long-time Sycamore businesswoman who died in late 1998, benefits five area organizations. Annual fund income is distributed to Shriners Hospital, as a memorial to Mrs. Boynton’s late husband, Elmer; to Sycamore Public Library, for book purchases; to Sycamore High School, for two annual scholarships; to The Salvation Army, for utilization within DeKalb County, and to Kishwaukee Health Foundation, to be used for purchasing equipment at Kishwaukee Community Hospital.

FIZZ EHRLER AUTOMOTIVE TECHNOLOGY SCHOLARSHIP
A memorial fund named for the longtime Sycamore businessman and car buff who died
in January 2000 after a hard-fought battle with cancer. The yearly scholarship
payout provides a Sycamore High School graduate support at Kishwaukee College.

This fund benefits a graduating Sycamore High School student. This was an existing fund
elsewhere, transferred to the Community Foundation, in 2002, from the estate of
the late Madeline Middleton.

The primary purpose of this fund, established late in 1999, is to provide

This 2008 scholarship was established as a memorial to this former Sycamore High School student by his parents David and LeeAnn Sanderson and family. It will be used to provide scholarship support to a SHS student desiring to pursue a theatre arts or film curriculum in college.

SCHOLARSHIP FUND
The annual recipient of this scholarship fund is a standout football player from Sycamore High School. The four sons and one daughter of this local couple, who both died during 2001, started this fund.

The income from this scholarship fund established in 1995 is awarded to female

SYCAMORE MASONIC LODGE SCHOLARSHIP FUND
Following the dissolution of this local Masonic chapter in 2004, its members opted
to use some of its remaining funds to start this scholarship, which will be awarded yearly at Sycamore High School.

BARRY ROBERT TOTTY MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP
This fund was established in 2008, to memorialize Barry Totty, a 1987 graduate of Sycamore High School. Barry was a plumber/pipe fitter by trade but investing in real estate was his life's work and enjoyment. He died in 2007 at the age of 38, due to an auto accident. This fund, established by his mother, will provide scholarship support for a SHS graduate pursuing a degree in agriculture.

Established in 1995 with a life insurance policy, the income from this fund will
eventually support graduates from DeKalb County and Kaneland School District schools.

This fund, started in 2006 by this local 4-H organization, will support scholarships for its youth in DeKalb County.

This scholarship fund for DeKalb County students was established in 1995 by the
Dental Society to honor and memorialize their members, as well as to provide
scholarships to DeKalb County graduates.

RICHARD AND BARBARA SWISHER HOLLAND FUND
This Sandwich couple wanted to support a Millikin University student pursuing a
health-care career, and established this fund in 2006 in honor of a physician
instrumental in saving Barb's life.

This endowment, started in 1999, utilizes the earnings to fund scholarship
assistance to a first-year student at Kishwaukee College. The recipient is one
who intends to pursue a degree or certificate in ornamental horticulture at
Kishwaukee.

This fund, established in 2006, will provide scholarship support to a returning or continuing student at Kishwaukee College, and was started by the family as a memorial to their late husband and father.

PALMER FAMILY MUSIC EDUCATION SCHOLARSHIP FUND
Dee Palmer, his brother, parents, and grandfather have made significant contributions to music and music education in DeKalb County since the late 1800's. This fund started in 2009 awards annual scholarships to DeKalb County residents who are graduating high school and going on to study for a career in music. Scholarship recipients will be selected by an independent committee each spring under the direction of the Community Foundation.

Established in 1997 by friends as a memorial to this courageous girl who died at
the age of 16, the income from this fund was initially used to support a graduate
of Malta High School. Following that school's merger with DeKalb High School,
the award is now presented to a D.H.S. graduate who resides in Malta.

This fund, started 2001, awards a returning, or continuing student at Kishwaukee
College. The scholarship is given through the generosity of Mrs. Price, a long-time NIU educator and active community volunteer.

FUND
Established in 1994 with a life insurance policy, the income from this fund will
eventually provide scholarships to students graduating from the Indian Creek
High School in Shabbona.

HAROLD P. WELLS SCHOLARSHIP FUND
Harold P. Wells was a retired Northern Illinois University professor who passed
away in 1996. His family and friends established this fund in 1997 to support
educational expenses for employees and families of the DeKalb Fire Department.

GUYLA WINEBRENER SCHOLARSHIP FUND
This DeKalb resident has established this fund in 2004 with life insurance, from
which proceeds will ultimately be used to create a scholarship fund to provide
support to employees of Oak Crest or their immediate families.
